Tottenham’s Postecoglou Talks Transfer Plans and Klopp’s Departure

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Ange Postecoglou, has stated that the club is unlikely to make any further signings during the January transfer window. This comes ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford on Wednesday. Currently sitting in fifth place, Tottenham has already secured the loan signing of forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and acquired defender Radu Dragusin from Genoa this month, as they aim to break back into the top four.

When asked about potential incoming transfers, Postecoglou told reporters in London, “Unlikely, I’d say. I don’t see any incomings.” While Tottenham may not be making any new additions to the squad, they will be welcoming back midfielder Pape Matar Sarr. Sarr, who has started 16 league games this season, left for national duty with Senegal at the African Cup of Nations, where they were eliminated in the second round. Postecoglou expressed his disappointment for Sarr and stated that he should be available for Saturday’s match.

The manager also praised Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney, who recently made a comeback after serving an eight-month ban for betting offenses. Postecoglou acknowledged Toney’s impact on the team, saying, “As soon as he comes into that team he gives them a different look. So much of Brentford’s attacking threat revolves around him.”

Tottenham currently trails fourth-placed Aston Villa by three points and was recently knocked out of the FA Cup after a fifth-round loss to Manchester City. Reflecting on their progress, Postecoglou stated, “I think the other night gives us a sense of where we are at a little bit with regards to our destination. But in terms of our starting point, I really believe we have made progress… the results are slowly inching our way as well.” He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bridge the gap and continue making strides towards their goals.

Postecoglou also shared his thoughts on Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season, describing it as a “shock to everyone.” Recognizing the challenges of staying at one club for an extended period, Postecoglou commended Klopp for his achievements and expressed curiosity about the length of his sabbatical. He jokingly mentioned that he hopes Klopp’s break lasts a while, as it gives him hope for his own future. “I’ve got a sense it just drags us back in, but I hope he does have the break that I think he deserves,” added Postecoglou.
